Wagashiya-san — Japanese Sweets Shop Kit
Wagashiya-san — Japanese Sweets Shop Kit
Four traditional Japanese sweets from one pack, using nothing but water. You colour the dough yourself, shape each sweet in your hands and decorate it — this kit is closer to modelling than to cooking, and it is the only one we stock that copies wagashi, the sweets a Japanese confectioner makes to go with tea.
What you make
- Ichigo daifuku — the strawberry-and-bean-paste mochi, in custard and anko flavours
- Taiyaki — the fish-shaped cake sold at festivals, in strawberry cream and anko flavours
- Usagi manju — a rabbit-shaped bun, strawberry flavour
- Oni manju — the knobbly sweet-potato bun from Japan's Tokai region, custard flavour
Three powders cover all four sweets: you mix the colours, form the shapes and add the decoration. The dough is mochitto — soft and springy — and it does not stick to your hands.
Water only, no microwave and no stove. One pack makes one of each of the four sweets.
Made by Meiji Chewing Gum in Japan and posted from our shop in Tokyo. The packaging is in Japanese — our English instructions library covers the kits in this range.
